Analysis and assessment of migration trends of the FYROM are very difficult because of limited sources of data. Most migration-related instruments and regulations in FYROM are not gender specific. There is no gender perspective in policy formulation and programme design that can contribute in creating gender sensitive policies and migration related instruments.

Mainstreaming a gender perspective in migration policy context is the process of assessing the implications for women and men of any planned action, including legislation, policies or programmes, in any area and at all levels. It is a strategy for making the concerns and experiences of women as well as of men an integral part of the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes. However, the new laws on migration, regulates and develops the EU minimum standards on: entry and admission; stay and residence; expulsion and voluntary return; irregular migration; trafficking in human beings and migration statistics and data protection.
