Migrant studies in Italy assume, on one hand, an important role to scientific research, attested by a growing number of publications, journals, and websites. On the other hand, the nexus between migration and social alarm – that is still quite predominant in the mainstream debate, as well as in government policies – is continuously challenged by an increasing quantity and quality of studies focusing first of all on the agency of the migrant women and men.
