Miranda Christou

Miranda Christou is a Lecturer in Sociology of Education (Department of Education, University of Cyprus) and holds a doctorate in Education (Harvard University, Ed.D. 2002). She is also a board member of the Mediterranean Institute for Gender Studies (MIGS). Her work concentrates on the role of educational systems in shaping questions of history and collective memory, the gendered processes of defining the nation and the pedagogical function of the media in representations of human pain and suffering. Miranda is also interested in how schools and educational institutions in general shape the construction of sexuality and gender. She has worked on the following research projects: “Gender Equality: Responsibility of Both Sexes”, “Facilitating Equality through Education” and the Daphne II project on gender violence “Secondary Education Schools and Education in Values”.
