Objectives – National Identity and the Media

The aim of this work package is to

* to undertake research on representations and constructions of the national ‘self’ and the national ‘other’, as related to issues of gender and migration in the media, focusing particularly on literature, television and film.

* to identify the ways in which dominant and mainstream conceptualizations about gender and migration as well as tensions and contradictions about ‘us’ and ‘them’ are reproduced in the media.

* to explore policy and theoretical perspectives through which the media can be involved in the processes of intercultural dialogue disseminating information and promoting awareness of the ways in which cultural diversity and migrant mobility enrich European societies.
